Understanding the Core Players in an Affiliate Marketing Campaign

Many different approaches and marketing campaigns exist for gaining the exposure a brand or idea needs to reach the masses and begin generating a substantial revenue. For a product to become profitable and successful, it must first reach the people that are willing to spend their hard earned dollar, and it must be able to stand the test of time when faults appear or new advances are discovered. Affiliate marketing eliminates all of this work from the shoulders of the small business owner and keeps it within the workload of the actual parent company. You, the affiliate partner, only deal with selling the idea and leading the customers to the place of purchase.

Affiliate marketing is an advertising and product distribution method that is unlike any other traditional option available to the small-time entrepreneur. Unlike alternatives that require large-funds for investments, properties for storage, or shipping capabilities to reach the customers, affiliate affairs requires only for one company ("The Merchant") to spread an idea through the audience ("The Network") for the company where the product originated ("The Publisher"). The publisher handles all the shipping, billing, and follow-up reviews and the merchant collects on the sales on a scheduled basis.

The key player in the affiliate game is you, the merchant. Selling a product that was developed by a separate entity presents its own problems and concerns that you won't deal with readily when you've been involved with a product from the design stages. However, it offers a freedom where you are able to shape your target audience around the product and move freely through the masses of online shoppers.

This audience is known as the network. The network is your expanding bank of customers, business partners, and anyone that has ever heard of the product you are selling or mentioned your company in the presence of a friend. It is vital that the merchant understands the people that compromise this network and the differences between the established reputation of the publisher and the individual reputation they must earn independently - even when it is the same product in question. To further understand your network, you will often be able to take a page from the parent company that is offering the affiliate package.

The Publisher is the boss that runs it all. They often have little or no contact with the small-time merchants, and it is possible to develop an entirely self-sustaining business without having any contact with the internal staff of the publisher. This is the company that develops the product, fixes the bugs, builds the support and large-scale advertisements and profits from your affiliate marketing strategies.

Learning to grow and expand in this market is not much unlike building a small business of your own but with a few unique twists and lacking the large tasks that burden the publishing entities. Affiliate marketing is something that offers a viable solution to all businessmen and provides an outlet for any man or woman to begin their future in the online marketing world. Tips like those found above are a great way to stay ahead of the curve and learn from the advances or mistakes of other companies similar to your own.
