Business Owner as Customer and Affiliate Marketing Using Customer Reviews

In continued efforts to grow your business with legitimate Internet word-of-mouth techniques, don't underestimate the power of writing reviews. Use the tips below to become a product or service reviewer as part of your affiliate marketing strategy.

Affiliate marketing by reviewing products and services related to your business can help establish your expertise. Opportunities in this area range from simple reciprocal arrangements with businesses that are obviously related to yours to others that are more tangentially related to your business.

Be creative when you think about what types of companies you can write reviews for. For instance, if you run a crafts website, you can look into writing reviews for businesses that sell office furniture and discuss the benefits of various desks or chairs for use in your craft business.

Only write reviews for products you have substantial experience in using. Your experience with a product or service you're using is best measured over time unless your review is based on one-time events such as price or delivery.

Your reviews should always describe the function the product has in your business and your length of time using the product to reduce the risk of recommending a second-rate service or business.

Choose companies that you have or plan on having a relationship with for at least a year before writing a review recommending the company. If there's a product or service you change frequently in your business such as a cleaning service or web hosting service, refrain from writing reviews about those companies. You are vouching for companies you positively review, and if you appear to keep switching, this will cut down on your credibility.

Avoid using words like "best" in your reviews when you've established an affiliate relationship so that your reviews for various businesses and their products don't overtly look like you're merely trying to increase traffic and ultimately revenue for yourself by recommending everyone.

Take the time to establish the genuine and specific strengths in the product or service you're reviewing and recommending. In terms of your business choices, avoid general terms such as professionalism in exchange for specific descriptions of the increased professionalism you achieve from a product or service such as a neater appearance, an ability to respond better to customers or some other advantage that illustrates professionalism.

Be very specific about what you're recommending about the company to avoid losing credibility if the company is accused of some criminal activity or unethical business practice. For instance, if you recommended Samsung smartphones, generally, then the recent verdict about Samsung's patent infringements could eat away at your credibility. However, if you recommended the look, the ease of operation or the personnel you dealt with at Samsung, your review would automatically indicate that you weren't in on any patent infringement activity engaged in by Samsung.

Don't limit customer reviews on your site to those companies that you review. While most users understand the reciprocity involved in affiliate relationships, your efforts do not have to be one for one but should expand to include other companies or customers that have used your business.

Affiliate marketing efforts can be improved by incorporating a strategy to participate in product and service reviews of other companies' products and services you use in your business. Use the strategies above to increase traffic to your sites by writing customer reviews.
